Center Valley, Pa. - Lehigh junior Dan Johnson headlines a list of 86 student-athletes named to the 2008 Patriot League Men's Swimming and Diving Academic Honor Roll, Executive Director Carolyn Schlie Femovich announced on Tuesday.
Johnson claimed the Patriot League Men's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor in March. He has now been named to the League's Academic Honor Roll in each of his three seasons, and recorded a 3.59 spring semester grade-point average as a Mechanical Engineering major at Lehigh. Johnson placed first in the 200yd Free and second in the 50yd and 100 yd Free races at the 2008 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championship.
Johnson is also part of a group of 17 All-Patriot League representatives that earned a spot on the Academic Honor Roll. In addition to Johnson, included in that total are First-Team All-Patriot League honorees from American (Joe Coronato and Dan Nagelberg), Bucknell (Brad Bennett and Mark Kawczenski) and Navy (Nathan Durham).
Bucknell led all schools with 16 selections to the Men's Swimming and Diving Academic Honor Roll, followed by Lafayette with 15 and Holy Cross with 14. Navy (11) and American (10) also had double-digit selections.
To be eligible for the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.20 grade-point average in the spring semester and be awarded a varsity letter in one of the Patriot League's 16 winter or spring championship sports. The criteria for awarding varsity letters are different at each institution.
