EASTON, Pa. -
Lafayette football held its first intrasquad scrimmage of the preseason on a cool Thursday night at Fisher Stadium. The Leopards ran more than 75 plays under the lights in a controlled scrimmage that began just prior to 7:45 p.m.
Junior quarterback Rob Curley led the first-team offense, playing a couple of series throughout the night. Sophomore Marc Quilling also saw significant time under center.
The defense starred on the night, forcing several turnovers including one forced fumble by junior DB Phillip Vincent when he stripped the ballcarrier while wrapping up the tackle.
Over 125 fans were spread throughout the 13,000-seat Fisher Stadium to get their first look at the Leopards in game situations. Lafayette is still over two weeks away from the season opener at Marist on Sept. 6.
Lafayette will return to action with a Wednesday morning practice that is slated for 8:30 p.m. Following practice, the senior members of the team will meet with the media at Lafayette Football Media Day held on campus at Pfenning Alumni Center.
Click back to GoLeopards.com on Wednesday afternoon for Tavani's recap of the scrimmage and full coverage of Media Day.
HOLDING A CLIPBOARD (for a change): LB Andy Romans, DE Luke Schade, DL Andrew Poulson, DB Marvin Celcidor (all four defensive starters) and TE Michael Conte were among those who sat out Thursday's scrimmage. Tavani had sad previously that some upperclassmen, who had nothing to prove in terms of playing time, would give way to younger players pushing for playing time.
