The USA Women's Field Hockey team will face defending Olympic champion Germany on Wednesday night in its third game of the 2008 summer games in Beijing. Amy Tran, an assistant on Lafayette's field hockey coaching staff, is the starting goalkeeper for the national team.
Tran made nine saves in USA's 1-1 draw against fifth-ranked Japan on Aug. 12. The Japanese team obtained an early lead with a goal from Koari Chiba at 11:17. Tran and the USA defense kept the team in contention until Kate Barber scored at 57:31 to tie the game, 1-1.
With two ties, the Americans have two points in the Pool B standings and have three games remaining. Prior to the game against Germany, USA is tied for third with Argentina while Germany leads the standings.
