EASTON, Pa. -
The USA Women's Field Hockey team continued pool play on Thursday where Lafayette assistant, Amy Tran, continued her duties as the team's starting goalkeeper.
Although maintaining an intense style of play throughout the game, Team USA lost to defending gold medalist Germany 4-2. In the 27th minute the United States took a 1-0 lead on a Tiffany Snow deflection. In the 34th minute, Germany's Natascha Keller used a reverse stick shot to tie the game right before halftime.
Tran was exceptional stopping several shots from the German's early in play. Fanny Rinne and Natascha Rodewold increased the lead for the Germans before Angie Loy scored to keep the U.S. in contention. Anke Kuehn scored in the 64th minute to cap a 4-2 final.
The U.S. have two games remaining in pool play facing New Zealand on Saturday with Great Britain on Monday. Now 0-1-2 the U.S. will be hard pressed to earn one of the top two slots in the six-team pool that qualify for the medal round. The games are available live via the internet on NBCOlympics.com at 8:30 a.m. ET on Monday, Aug. 16 and 6:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 18.
