EASTON, Pa. -
Enjoying unseasonably cool temperatures for the majority of the 2008 preseason camp thus far, the Lafayette women's soccer team continues to build energy towards its season opener just one week away on Aug. 26 at Rider.
Head coach Mick Statham has been very encouraged by the progress and energy of the first weeks of camp.
"I have been quite pleased with the quality of our training sessions and I think the team is working very hard," Statham said.
"The freshmen have adapted better than I expected and the veterans are showing more maturity in their game. Outside of the obvious technical improvement, the spirit of the team is as strong as I have ever seen it. They have been a pleasure to coach so far and as long as they continue to give each other their very best every day, on the field, in the classroom and as part of the Lafayette community I will be proud of them."
Over the weekend, the Leopards worked through a double session on Saturday, followed by a single session on Sunday. After light training workouts on Monday and Tuesday, the squad will take part in the first of this week's two scrimmages on Wednesday when they travel to Swarthmore College, just outside of Philadelphia.
Three days later, Lafayette's upperclassmen will make the trek down to Atlantic City on Saturday to take on Temple in a preseason scrimmage. The 10-member freshman class will stay back on College Hill, as they enjoy day three of orientation for the class of 2012.
